When thinking about who I want to see my movie, I would most likely want audiences directed to my age and older (seventeen-young adult). The reason why I would want to target these audiences is that my film would have some adult themes younger children may not understand, and older people may not relate or enjoy as much. I feel like a young adult age will be easier to work with when it comes to creating an enjoyable film. A lot coming of age films such as 13 Going on 30 (2004), The Kissing Booth (2018), and The Outsiders (1983) have a teen or young adult protagonists. Even with their difference in exhibition age, they share the similarity of the protagonist's age.
Coming of age films mainly focus "… on the psychological and moral growth or transition of a protagonist from youth to adulthood."
This is why I think I would prefer audiences of young adult age or a little younger because I feel their relatability would be great as far as major themes in my film and their enjoyment would be greater because of their closeness in age to the characters. I plan on trying to get my dream audience to watch my film by producing trailers that ensure the themes of the movie. Maybe such as the fact that they are/attend school (whether college or high school) and include very typical themes such as a school drama or how the protagonist seems unique because viewers tend to get a kick out of that.
The movie: 13 Going on 30 (2004) goes through the stages of adolescence where protagonist Jenna Rink dreams of being "30, flirty, and thriving!" For her 13th birthday that's all, she wishes for. When she wakes up 30, she cannot believe how exciting it is to finally be 30. This movie shows 13-year-old Jenna Rink growing up-except in the body of a 30-year-old. It creates a comedic theme I hope to incorporate into my film. This film allows audiences of older age to enjoy this movie because they do in-fact know what it is like to be an adult. This also appeals to younger girls because the protagonist is a young girl and even incorporates Jenna's young self when she becomes an adult, such as in this elevator scene above.
